About The Trip

Seeking the easy and short trek to view the majestic mountains and surreal terrain in Everest Region? Pikey Peak Trek is one of the best easy and short treks in the Lower Everest Region. This trek not only offers grandeur mountain peaks but also the scenic beauty of the landscape and cultural exploration of Sherpa living in this region. During the clear day, Pikey Peak offers Nepal's seven eight-thousanders mountains from one place. Situated at the altitude of 4068 meters above sea level, the trek to Pikey Peak will be suitable for both beginners to experienced trekkers.

Overview

When it comes to short trekking, everybody will add Mardi Himal Trek or Langtang Valley to their bucket list. But nobody will include the small heaven located at the lap of the Everest Region, Pikey Peak Trek.

Nestled in the lap of Everest and other mighty mountains, Pikey Peak is a newly opened trekking route in Solukhumbu where you will discover the beautiful landscape of the Khumbu and the Everest region. Pikey Peak Trek Itinerary takes you off the beaten path which offers the majestic view of Everest (8848 m), Kanchenjunga (8586m), Makalu (8463m), Lhotse (8414m), and many other mountains. You will also be exhilarated with the sunrise and sunset over these mighty peaks.

Pikey Peak Trekking in Nepal Himalayas explores the unforgettable warm hospitality with incredible traditional Sherpa, Tamang, and Magar Peoples. You will be amazed to see their cultural lifestyle, Buddhist monasteries, and gompas on the way to the peak. Exploring the surrounding Himalayan range, exciting local cultures, lifestyle, pristine village, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and gompas make the journey awe-inspiring. On the hilltop of Pikey peak, Sherpa people hike there to hang the prayer flag and during the monsoon (June/July), they celebrate the worship ceremony by Monks and Buddhists.

Pikey Peak Trek Route

Our trek starts with the early morning ride to Dhap, which may take 6-7 hours of the ride. The drive passes through subtropical forests of pine and dense rhododendrons, several villages, beautiful landscapes, and valleys until reaching Dhap Bazaar. Next morning. You will start your trek to Jhapre via Sigane. The trail follows under construction road for a couple of hours with nice views of a deep valley and a glimpse of Mt. Everest. On this day, you will get up early in the morning with the majestic view of Everest, Numbur Chuli, and other eastern Himalayas. After some gentle ups and downs along the ridge, you will reach the Pikey Peak Base Camp.

After early breakfast, you will start the uphill switchbacks until you will reach Pikey Peak Trek. If the weather is clear, then sunrise over Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Khangtega, Khatang, Karyoling to the north, Kanchenjunga to the east, and Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa, and Langtang to the west. The trail then enters a long descent to the valley through fir and rhododendron forests until reaching Taktor. Ahead you will pass through several Mani walls and stone chortens until you reach Junbesi. The trail ahead then crosses the river, dense forest, and finally reaches Ringmo. Today is the last day of your trek as you reach Phaplu via Chiwong Monastery. Today the trek ends as you drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu.

Best Time for Pikey Peak Trek

Choosing the best time for Pikey Peak Trek offers spectacular views of mighty mountains and blooming forests. The best time to trek Mardi Himal is during spring and autumn as you will experience the clear sky and mountains with breathtaking sunrise and sunset views.

Spring Season in Pikey Peak Trek

The spring season falls from the month of March to May and is the best season to trek Pikey Peak. The beauty will enhance during the spring by blooming rhododendrons during April. In the Spring season, the dense forest will come alive with varied colorful wildflowers and shades of scarlet. The entire green hills will be decorated with varied species of rhododendrons and other species of wildflowers.

You will also be amazed by the clear snow-capped mountains, chirping sounds of birds, and incense of the woods. The trek adds a magical touch if you witness snowfall during the season, which forms entire meadows and displays in white.

Autumn Season in Pikey Peak Trek

The autumn season falls from September to November, which is the best season for Pikey Peak Trek. This season has another best feature, you will experience the rain-washed environment with more greener hills. The dark, mossy woods under the brilliantly clear sky and glittering white peaks amaze you.

The dust-washed air with excellent views of mountains and beautiful landscape makes the trek enjoyable. Due to the clear sky, you can enjoy the beautiful star trails during the nighttime. This is the best time to be in Pikey Peak for the sharp stars shining.

Winter Season in Pikey Peak Trek

The winter season falls from December to February, and this is the least favorite season for the trek. You will experience the cold weather and difficulty in trekking. As the pikey peak trek is at a lower altitude, you can trek with proper equipment and clothes.

Summer Season in pikey peak Trek

The summer season falls from June to August, and this is the hottest season of the year. You will also experience frequent rainfall that leads to slippery and uncomfortable trials. Trekking in this season will lead to danger, as there may be landslides during the monsoon rain in the hilly region.

Pikey Peak Trek Difficulty

Pikey peak trek is an easy and moderate journey as the peak is located at the height of 4068 meters. With less physical fitness and fewer efforts, you will be able to capture the best view of Everest. Since the maximum height is 4068 meters above sea level, you can find snow-capped trails above 2600 meters above sea level. So, it will be adventurous during winter time to reach the base camp.

A healthy person who can walk about 4-5 hours a day can complete this trek easily. You can trek Pikey Peak without any physical difficulties. In conclusion, the Pikey Peak trek is considered an easy to medium-level destination with the best short trek in Everest Region.

Pikey Peak Trek Cost

The cost of Pikey Peak Trek will be determined by the type of the trek you are planning. The price differs according to the days spent or seasons you choose to trek. Overall, the cost of the Pikey Peak Trek is around USD 635 to 665.

Pikey Peak Trek Itinerary usually includes hotel accommodation during the trek, local or private jeep, trekking permits, meals, professional trekking guides, porters, insurance, 2-night accommodation in Kathmandu on BB Basis, needed paperwork etc. The cost of this trek also depends upon traveling as private or in a group.

Safe and sanitary treks of your dreams

Buddhi Rai led my wife and I (and 9 other U.S trekkers aged 40s to 80) on a trek on the Tibetan Plateau (Mustang) and a elephant-and-rhino safari by foot and canoe in Chitwan National Park in October 2025. We took two other treks led by Buddhi to Tsum Valley (2022) and rhododendron trails near Annapurna (2024). On all three treks, his team put safety first and met each trekker's daily needs, including healthy meals/water and helping hands (and/or rides) when needed. We were introduced to Buddhi by his friend/mentor Sydney Frymire from the Washington DC area and New York. Sydney described her Nepal trek experiences in her (Amazon) book, "How a Cup of Masala Tea Changed My Life." Buddhi and many of his guides and staff come from near Basa, his home village.
